Meetings. Appcelerator and Cocoafish.

Had an interesting meeting with Microsoft today. Windows 8 is going to be massive and obviously you have to watch the Azure. Can’t tell any more :-)

Also interesting meetup with Jeff Haynie, founder & CEO of Appcelerator. Was good to speak with him personally. Jeff’s presentation was interesting in that it was around techy issues and what problems their company is facing and it’s incredible how similar it is to what we have to deal with including things like JIRA, developers relation, fragmentation of online communities etc.

Also was stunned to find out about their acquisition of Cocoa Fish, another competitor of our QuickBlox. Can’t imagine how crowded the space might be in half a year’s time. The time is now. Or yesterday? :-)

More meetings tomorrow.

Thanks to iPhone I’ve grown a successful company during credit crunch, built up a great team, met a number of fantastic people, worked on many world famous projects, had tons of fun – and this goes on.

RIP Steve, the man who knew how to win perfection.

Age of SaaS, age of cloud

I’ve just noticed how without hesitation I pay hundreds of dollars for various cloud services and realized that it is indeed the age of cloud and all things SaaS (Software as a Service), PaaS (Platform as a Service) and IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service).

Few quick examples, in our business (Injoit and QuickBlox) I use:

Will recommend everyone using these systems. It is convenient and makes sense. I pay for them light-heartedly as they provide the convenience, functionality and added value which makes life of my team easier and allows them to do more in less time.

I also hope the subscribers of QuickBlox, our PaaS (Platform as a Service) for mobile apps businesses, will sport the same attitude and appreciate the great functionality our system provides.

Poor Nokia

2011

From what happens to Nokia:

  • Elop as CEO
  • alliance with Microsoft
  • ditching Symbian, Qt and OVI
  • also knowing from their employees how poor the management is

it looks like Nokia is going to fall.

It’s a shame because they really used to create great handsets, I still own N95 and remember their old idiot-proof, highly robust and usable devices.

The way to save Nokia right now looks like to evaluate the situation and either upgrade Symbian/QT/Ovi into own powerful platform or go with Android OS; and also do a major re-shake of management at all levels.

Sadly enough, that’s not going to happen. I personally think the chances of Nokia becoming successful with WP7 are minimal. WP7 is not bad and there is a slight chance for success but it just doesn’t make any sense right now, not sure what those guys on Nokia board are thinking about.
