London evening – St Katharine’s dock

A great idea for a pleasant evening in London is to arrive to London Bridge or Waterloo, walk along Thames to Tower bridge, cross it enjoying the scenery and then turn right to a secret place called St. Katharine’s dock. Go to Dickens Inn and have pizza and wine there. Enjoy the place.

Most of waiters there are Russian speaking in case it helps :-)

Lake District Easter Break and Helicopter Rescue Footage

I always wanted to do Lake District and got a chance this Easter to do that with great people from AAA London – The Action Adventure Activity meetup group.

By the way I definitely recommend you to check out meetup.com if you haven’t done so yet as it is a great website where you will find a huge number of activities and great people sharing your interests.

This website is especially popular in US and UK. Funny enough, spending most of my time online and being a member of most social networks I have never heard about meetup before and only found out about it in a book! (The 4-Hour Work Week: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich by Timothy Ferris which I highly recommend to everyone).

Anyway I was lucky to join this trip with AAA guys and it was fabulous, the weather much better than forecasted, the landscapes fantastic and overall experience very refreshing and exciting. Here I would say that Misha, the organizer, is a really great guy taking care of everything and everybody is complimenting his organization of trips including booking the whole hostel, cooking food for us, excellent hikes, instructions, health&safety and also making evenings fun with social games and parties.

I’ve uploaded few photos from the trip to my Picasa album though I must say they are mostly stolen from Eliza and Claire.

We were also ‘lucky’ to watch the real mountain rescue operation. Returning back to valley from Scaffel Pike moving along a tricky but quite busy trail, we were suddenly stuck because people have stopped in front of us. Apparently some guy has fallen from the rise and broke an ankle or something. And he had to be transported down to the valley somehow. And here was the helicopter and what they did actually first they lifted his girlfriend to test how it works :) and then the guy went on a stretcher and accompanied by a rescue man. Here’s the video from my iPhone 3G (which uses special hack to be able to make videos hence the quality):

All is well that ends well. My general mood after the trip was very positive and revived, ready for lots of work ahead. Also was happy to meet so many new people. Highly recommend and looking forward to new hikes with AAA team.
